Poynette is a village in Columbia County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,590 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Poynette was named after Pierre Paquette (1796-1836), an early fur trader and settler of south central Wisconsin. When an application was made for a post office in the settlement, Paqette's name was misread as Poyette. The village was then named after the post office. The community was incorporated in 1892. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.58 square miles (6.68 km²), of which, 2.55 square miles of it is land and 0.03 sq miles (0.08 km²) is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,528 people, 1,046 households, and 670 families living in the village. There were 1,122 housing units at an average density of 440.0 per square mile (169.9/km²). History

Poynette was named after Pierre Paquette (1796-1836), an early fur trader and settler of south central Wisconsin. When an application was made for a post office in the settlement, Paquettes name was misread as Poynette. The village was then named after the post office. The community was incorporated in 1892. It is located in the state of Wisconsin, near the town of Waukesha. The town has a population of about 2,000. It was incorporated as a village in1892. The post office was mistakenly named "Poyette" when the community was first established. The name was later changed to "poynette" and the community became a town in 1894. It has been named after a man who lived in the area in the 1800s, who was a fur trader. He was called Pierre Paqette, and the town was named in his honor. He died in 1836, and was buried in the town's cemetery. He is buried in a plot of land that is now called "Pierre Paqteau" in the Poyette section of the town. The city's name is now "Waukeshiek" in honor of the same man, who lived there in the early 1800s and was also buried there in 1838. It's also known as "Wausau" or "Pauquette" in German, and "Pouquet" in French. It became a city in 1891.

The Village of Poynette is located in Sections 34 and 35 of the Town of Dekorra (T 11 N, R 9 E), at 43°2332N 89°243W (43.392, -89.401).According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.58 square miles (6.68 km²), of which, 2.55 square miles of it is land and 0.03 sq miles (0.08 km²) is water. The village is located on the Gulf of Mexico, which is a major shipping route for the Gulf Coast region of the U.S. and the Caribbean. It is the only town in the state of New Mexico with a population of more than 1,000. The town's population was 1,071 as of the 2010 Census, down from 1,081 in the 2000 Census and 1,094 in the 1990 Census. It has an estimated population of 1,061. The city of DekOrra is the largest city in the county, with a total population of 2,816. The population of the village is 1,715. It was the largest town in New Mexico in the 1930s, when it had 1,813 residents. The current population is 2,072. The U.N. World Heritage Site is the town of Poysnette, which was founded in 1881. It lies on the Pacific Coast and was the site of the Spanish-American War.

It is located in the eastern part of the town of Arlington, New Mexico. The city is home to the Arlington High School and Arlington Middle School. It also has the Arlington Elementary School and the Arlington School for the Deaf and Blind, which opened in the 1970s and 1980s.
