Bison Township is a township in Perkins County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota.As of the 2010 census, the township had a population of 24. The township is home to the Bison River, which runs through the center of the township. The Bison river is a tributary of the Little Red River. The river was once known as the "Bison River" and was formed in the 1800s. It was named for the bison, which are believed to have been the first inhabitants of the area. The town's name is derived from the word "bison" which means "to eat" or "to drink" in Dakota.
