Bison Township is a township in Perkins County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota.As of the 2010 census, the township had a population of 24. The township is home to the Bison River, which runs through the center of the township. The Bison river is a tributary of the Little Red River. The river was once known as the "Bison River" and was formed in the 1800s. It was named for the bison, which are believed to have been the first inhabitants of the area. The town's name is derived from the word "bison" which means "to eat" or "to drink" in Dakota. The population of Bison Township was 24 as of the census of 2010, and the population of the entire township was 24 at the 2010 census as of the 2010 age of 24 years and 1 months in Perkins County, South Dakota. It is the only township in the county to have a population in excess of 20 people. The county has a total population of 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in the town of Bisonsburg, which is located on the north side of the river.
